Meta ad rejected · Low quality or disruptive content

Why was my Meta ad rejected for low quality or sensational content?

Updated · By Ahmed, six years running Meta ads

Short answer

This rejection means Meta judged your ad to be clickbait under its low quality or disruptive content policy: it withholds information, uses sensational language or pushes people to like, comment or share. Rewrite it to plainly say what you’re offering, drop the engagement requests, then resubmit or request another review in Meta Business Support Home.

Also change: The original ad doesn't name a product or offer, so I wrote generic copy. Replace "trending finds" with your actual product or offer, and add any real price or discount. Change the link to a page that shows that product or collection, not a "/secret" page. Make sure the page content matches the ad.

The copy is clickbait with engagement bait and excessive capitals and punctuation, which often triggers review or rejection under low-quality content rules.

What usually triggers it

  • Withholding information so people have to click to find out what the ad is about. Meta names this as a low-quality attribute.“You won’t believe what happened next…”
  • Sensational or exaggerated headlines that promise a reaction the landing page doesn’t deliver.“SHOCKING SECRET REVEALED”
  • Engagement bait: asking people to like, comment, share or tag friends to boost reach.“Tag a friend who needs to see this!!!”
  • Shocking or sensational images or video. Meta’s Advertising Standards say ads must not contain shocking, sensational or excessively violent content.
  • A landing page that feels low quality: thin content, a heavy share of ads, disruptive pop-ups, or an article split across many pages.

How to fix the ad

  1. Say what you’re selling in the first line. If the reader has to click to learn what the ad is about, rewrite it.
  2. Swap exaggerated words (“shocking”, “insane”, “you won’t believe”) for a specific, true benefit.
  3. Remove every request to like, comment, share or tag. A normal call to action like “Shop now” or “Learn more” is fine.
  4. Use normal sentence case and normal punctuation. Drop runs of capitals and “!!!”.
  5. Make sure the landing page delivers what the headline promises, without pop-up traps or content split across pages.
  6. Run the copy through the free checker at /check before upload. It estimates risk and flags clickbait phrasing; it isn’t a decision from Meta.

If your ad is already rejected

  1. Open Meta Business Support Home (formerly Account Quality) and read the reason given for the rejection.
  2. Rewrite the parts above, then edit the ad. An edited ad goes back into review automatically.
  3. If you believe the ad doesn’t break the policy, select the ad and request another review instead of editing it. Meta aims to decide within 48 hours.
  4. Don’t delete the rejected ad first; deleting it may remove the option to request a review.
  5. Keep a note of what you changed, in case the account is reviewed later.

Check your next ad before you upload it

Paste the copy and add the image or video. The free checker scores the rejection risk, points to the exact words at fault and the Meta policy behind each one, and suggests a safer version. It estimates risk; it isn't a decision from Meta.

Likely to be rejected. Fix the flagged lines before you upload.

This supplement ad combines a personal-attribute callout, a specific weight-loss result, guaranteed results, clickbait and a URL shortener, so it is very likely to be rejected.

Personal Attributeshigh

“Are you struggling with belly fat?” · primary text

The ad asserts a personal characteristic about the viewer by addressing them directly about a body condition.

Fix: Our gummies are designed to support a healthy metabolism.

Unrealistic Outcomeshigh

“helped Maria lose 12 kg in 3 weeks!!!” · primary text

A specific weight-loss amount within a short timeframe is an exaggerated, unrealistic result, and supplement ads must target 18+.

Fix: Remove the specific result; use a general statement such as 'Part of a balanced routine for healthy weight management.'

Unrealistic Outcomeshigh

“GUARANTEED RESULTS” · headline

Guaranteed results are a prohibited claim for health and weight-loss products.

Fix: Use 'Start your wellness routine today' or remove the claim entirely.

Low Quality or Sensational Contentmedium

“Doctors hate this one trick.” · primary text

This is classic clickbait, and the triple exclamation marks add to the sensational tone.

Fix: Replace with 'Learn how our gummies fit into a healthy routine.'

Unrealistic Outcomeshigh

“See the before and after pics.” · primary text

Before-and-after comparisons for weight loss are high risk and draw rejection.

Fix: Remove the before-and-after reference and focus on the product's ingredients.

Circumventing Systemshigh

“https://bit.ly/slim-offer” · landing page

URL shorteners hide the true destination and are high risk, and can lead to account-level enforcement.

Fix: Use the full, direct landing page URL on the brand's own domain.

Questions

Does Meta always reject clickbait, or just show it less?

Both can happen. Meta says it rejects ads that violate its low quality or disruptive content policy, and that ads with low-quality traits can be less competitive in the auction, so they cost more and get fewer results.

Is a call to action like “Shop now” engagement bait?

No. Engagement bait means urging people to like, comment, share or tag in an inauthentic way to boost reach. A normal call to action that tells people what happens next is fine.

Can low-quality ads hurt my whole account?

They can affect more than one ad. Meta says that if advertisers repeatedly post policy-violating or low-quality ads, it may treat the Page, domain or ad account as lower quality, which makes later ads less competitive.

Does it apply to the landing page too?

Yes. Meta lists low-quality landing page traits too: little original content, too many ads, disruptive pop-ups and interstitials, content split across many pages, and misleading shopping or shipping experiences.

Are capital letters and exclamation marks banned?

Meta doesn’t ban them outright. But shouting headlines and stacked exclamation marks are a common part of sensational, clickbait-style copy, so plain sentence case is the safer choice.

Does this apply on Instagram as well as Facebook?

Yes. Meta’s Advertising Standards set what is allowed in ads across Meta technologies, so the same rules apply to Instagram ads as to Facebook ads.
