Meta ad rejected · Violent and Graphic Content
Why was my Meta ad rejected for shocking or graphic content?
This rejection means Meta found imagery that shocks, scares or disgusts, such as gore, visible injuries, body waste, suffering, or a weapon pointed at the viewer. Replace it with creative that shows the product or the result calmly, without the graphic detail, then resubmit or request another review in Meta Business Support Home if you believe it was wrong.
What usually triggers it
- Imagery meant to shock or disgust, such as mutilation, body waste, rotting, graphic crime scenes or accidents, or graphic hygiene and grooming close-ups like pimple popping.“Wait for it: the biggest blackhead we've ever pulled.”
- Visible innards, such as exposed organs, bones or muscle tissue. Meta does not allow this even in health-related ads.
- Graphic violence, torture or abuse of animals.
- Highlighting suffering: a violent death or life-threatening event, visible distress from an accident, medical procedure or police action, or animals suffering in a hunting context.
- A firearm, blade or explosive pointed directly at the viewer, or footage implying a gun is about to be used, such as cocking it. The pointed-at-the-viewer rule also covers fictional images that look like real photos, except motion picture posters.
- Scare tactics used to grab attention.“Warning: graphic. Don't look away.”
How to fix the ad
- Show the product, the service or the finished result, not the wound, injury, procedure or mess. A clean product shot or a plain description of what you offer is usually enough.
- Remove close-ups of body fluids, extractions, decay and accident scenes from the image, the video and the thumbnail.
- Do not rely on a health or safety purpose to justify graphic images. Meta's rule on visible innards applies even in health-related contexts.
- Keep any weapon out of the frame, or at least never pointed at the camera. Selling weapons is covered by a separate Meta policy that does not allow it.
- Replace fear-based hooks with calm, factual copy about what you offer.
- Check every frame of a video, not just the opening. Run the creative through our free checker at /check before upload; it estimates risk and is not Meta's decision.
Risky wording, and safer wording
Illustrative examples to show the difference. Always check the full ad, image and landing page too.
| Risky | Safer |
|---|---|
| Wait for it: the biggest blackhead we've ever pulled. | Pore strips for a cleaner-looking nose, in packs of 10. |
| This crash could have been you. (Shown with a photo of a wrecked car.) | Dashcams that record day and night, with free fitting. |
| Our surgeon shows the real incision, step by step. | Book a consultation to talk through the procedure and recovery. |
| See what happens to a mouse in our trap. | A trap that is easy to set and empty, with no mess. |
If your ad is already rejected
- Open the rejection email or Meta Business Support Home and read the reason. Find the exact image, video frame or thumbnail that caused it.
- Edit the ad in Meta Ads Manager to replace that creative. An edited ad is automatically sent for review again. Avoid deleting it if you might want a review, because Meta says a deleted ad may lose the option to request one.
- If you believe the ad did not break the policy, request another review in Business Support Home: select the account, select the ad, click Request review, then Submit. Meta aims to decide within 48 hours, and if the ad is rejected again you cannot request another review for it.
- Do not upload the same footage in new ads, re-cut or lightly blurred, to get past review. Editing or deleting a rejected ad does not remove the violation, and repeated violations can get the account restricted.
- Keep records: a screenshot of the rejected ad, the reason Meta gave, the date and what you changed.
Check your next ad before you upload it
Paste the copy and add the image or video. The free checker scores the rejection risk, points to the exact words at fault and the Meta policy behind each one, and suggests a safer version. It estimates risk; it isn't a decision from Meta.

This supplement ad combines a personal-attribute callout, a specific weight-loss result, guaranteed results, clickbait and a URL shortener, so it is very likely to be rejected.

“Are you struggling with belly fat?” · primary text
The ad asserts a personal characteristic about the viewer by addressing them directly about a body condition.
Fix: Our gummies are designed to support a healthy metabolism.
“helped Maria lose 12 kg in 3 weeks!!!” · primary text
A specific weight-loss amount within a short timeframe is an exaggerated, unrealistic result, and supplement ads must target 18+.
Fix: Remove the specific result; use a general statement such as 'Part of a balanced routine for healthy weight management.'
“GUARANTEED RESULTS” · headline
Guaranteed results are a prohibited claim for health and weight-loss products.
Fix: Use 'Start your wellness routine today' or remove the claim entirely.
“Doctors hate this one trick.” · primary text
This is classic clickbait, and the triple exclamation marks add to the sensational tone.
Fix: Replace with 'Learn how our gummies fit into a healthy routine.'
“See the before and after pics.” · primary text
Before-and-after comparisons for weight loss are high risk and draw rejection.
Fix: Remove the before-and-after reference and focus on the product's ingredients.
“https://bit.ly/slim-offer” · landing page
URL shorteners hide the true destination and are high risk, and can lead to account-level enforcement.
Fix: Use the full, direct landing page URL on the brand's own domain.

Also change: Link: replace the bit.ly shortener with the full, direct URL on your own brand domain, and make sure the landing page has no before-and-after photos, guaranteed-result claims or specific weight-loss numbers. Creative: remove any before-and-after images and any overlay text about kilos lost. Show the product or lifestyle shots instead, with overlay text like "Support your healthy routine". Set ad targeting to 18+.
Questions
Can a medical or health ad show graphic images if it is educational?
Not in ads. Meta does not allow imagery of visible innards such as exposed organs, bones or muscle tissue, even in health-related contexts, and it lists visible distress from a medical procedure as sensational content.
Can I show a gun in a Meta ad?
Meta does not allow imagery of firearms, blades or explosives pointed directly at the viewer, or content implying a firearm is about to be used, such as cocking it. Ads that promote the sale or use of weapons are not allowed under a separate policy.
Do the rules apply to illustrations, games or AI images?
Yes, in part. Meta applies the weapon-pointed-at-the-viewer rule to fictional imagery that looks like a real photo or video of a person, with an exception for motion picture posters.
Is this the same as a low quality or sensational content rejection?
Not quite. This rule is about shocking, violent or graphic imagery. Clickbait wording and withheld information are covered separately in our low quality and sensational content guide.
Can I appeal a shocking content rejection?
Yes. If you believe the ad was wrongly rejected, request another review in Meta Business Support Home; Meta aims to decide within 48 hours. If it is rejected again you cannot request another review for that ad.
