Meta ad rejected · Boosted posts
Why was my boosted Facebook or Instagram post rejected?
A boosted post is an ad made from an existing post, so Meta reviews it against the same Advertising Standards as any other ad, including its targeting and link. Read the reason in Business Support Home, then create a new compliant post and boost it, or request another review if you believe the rejection was wrong.
What usually triggers it
- The post says something an ad can’t. A caption that is fine as an organic post can still break the Advertising Standards once you pay to boost it.“Feeling anxious? Our tea calms you down in minutes.”
- The link in the post leads to a page that doesn’t match the post or breaks a policy itself. Meta’s review can include the ad’s destination.“A post about a free guide that links to a paid checkout.”
- The boost’s audience doesn’t fit the product, for example an age-restricted product boosted to everyone.“A wine tasting event boosted to an audience that includes under-18s.”
- The post is about a social issue, election or politics and is boosted without authorization and a “Paid for by” disclaimer.“Sign our petition to the council to stop the new road.”
- The post asks people to like, comment or share, or uses sensational wording, which Meta treats as low quality or clickbait in ads.“Comment YES if you want to win this!”
How to fix the boost
- Find the status in Meta Business Suite under Ads, then All ads, or in the Ad Center on your Page. Rejected means it does not comply with the Advertising Standards.
- Read the reason in Business Support Home and check the post text, image or video, link and audience against that policy.
- Write a new post with compliant wording and boost that. Meta says you can’t edit the text, images or video of a boosted post once it has been reviewed and published.
- If only the audience is the problem, you can edit the audience, duration and budget from the Page’s Ad Center on facebook.com (not the iOS app).
- If you boosted from Meta Business Suite or the Page, manage it there. Meta says those ads can’t be edited, deleted or duplicated in Ads Manager.
- Before you boost again, check the caption and image with our free checker at /check. It estimates policy risk; it is not Meta’s decision.
Risky wording, and safer wording

| Risky | Safer |
|---|---|
| Feeling anxious? Our tea calms you down in minutes. | Our caffeine-free chamomile blend, made for slow evenings. |
| Comment YES and share to win! | Enter our giveaway on our website. Terms and closing date on the page. |
| Lose 10 kg before summer with our plan. | A 12-week meal-planning guide with recipes and shopping lists. |
| Tired of being broke? This side hustle pays daily. | Free online workshop: the basics of starting a small business. |
If your ad is already rejected
- Read the rejection notice and Business Support Home to see which policy the boost broke.
- Create a new compliant post and boost it, because the creative of a published boost can’t be edited. Re-boosting the same post sends it back to review, so only do that if the post itself complies.
- If you believe the boost was rejected by mistake, request another review in Business Support Home. Meta aims to decide within 48 hours. Deleting the ad may remove that option.
- If the Page shows Boost unavailable with Advertising not allowed, the Page itself is restricted. An admin, editor, moderator or advertiser can request a review from the Boost unavailable tooltip; do not move to a new Page to get round it.
Check your next ad before you upload it
Paste the copy and add the image or video. The free checker scores the rejection risk, points to the exact words at fault and the Meta policy behind each one, and suggests a safer version. It estimates risk; it isn't a decision from Meta.

This supplement ad combines a personal-attribute callout, a specific weight-loss result, guaranteed results, clickbait and a URL shortener, so it is very likely to be rejected.

“Are you struggling with belly fat?” · primary text
The ad asserts a personal characteristic about the viewer by addressing them directly about a body condition.
Fix: Our gummies are designed to support a healthy metabolism.
“helped Maria lose 12 kg in 3 weeks!!!” · primary text
A specific weight-loss amount within a short timeframe is an exaggerated, unrealistic result, and supplement ads must target 18+.
Fix: Remove the specific result; use a general statement such as 'Part of a balanced routine for healthy weight management.'
“GUARANTEED RESULTS” · headline
Guaranteed results are a prohibited claim for health and weight-loss products.
Fix: Use 'Start your wellness routine today' or remove the claim entirely.
“Doctors hate this one trick.” · primary text
This is classic clickbait, and the triple exclamation marks add to the sensational tone.
Fix: Replace with 'Learn how our gummies fit into a healthy routine.'
“See the before and after pics.” · primary text
Before-and-after comparisons for weight loss are high risk and draw rejection.
Fix: Remove the before-and-after reference and focus on the product's ingredients.
“https://bit.ly/slim-offer” · landing page
URL shorteners hide the true destination and are high risk, and can lead to account-level enforcement.
Fix: Use the full, direct landing page URL on the brand's own domain.

Also change: Link: replace the bit.ly shortener with the full, direct URL on your own brand domain, and make sure the landing page has no before-and-after photos, guaranteed-result claims or specific weight-loss numbers. Creative: remove any before-and-after images and any overlay text about kilos lost. Show the product or lifestyle shots instead, with overlay text like "Support your healthy routine". Set ad targeting to 18+.
Questions
Is a boosted post really an ad?
Yes. Meta describes boosted posts as ads you create from existing posts on your Facebook Page, and when you boost a post you create a Facebook ad. It goes through ad review before it runs.
Why was my post fine organically but rejected as a boost?
Ads must follow the Advertising Standards as well as the Community Standards. A paid post is reviewed against those ad rules, including its targeting and landing page.
Can I edit a rejected boosted post?
Not the text, image or video once it has been reviewed and published; Meta says you need to create a new post and boost it. You can still edit the audience, duration, budget and payment method.
Does this apply to Instagram boosts?
Yes. Ads for a Facebook Page or Instagram account created in Meta Business Suite are checked against the same Advertising Standards and show the same statuses, including In review and Rejected.
What’s the difference between Boost unavailable and rejected?
Boost unavailable means the post or Page can’t be boosted at all, for example a shared post, a draft or a Page restricted from advertising. Rejected means the boost was created and failed ad review.
Can a rejected boost affect my Page?
It can if it keeps happening. Meta says Pages that violate its Advertising Standards can be restricted from advertising, including boosting posts.
